Ctrl+N - Welcome Heather

We are very excited to have a new team member starting with us, Heather Pritchard. Heather is part of the Departments eduSTAR Technical Support program and will join us for 12 hours a week.

While not ideal times to start at a new school and meet all the lovely staff, please make Heather feel welcome if you cross paths with her or she responds to any of your tickets!

Welcome to the team Heather!

Google Classroom Stuck on loading logo

We believe the problem has been fixed as we are no longer receiving reports. We will close the tickets related to Google Classroom but if you have any cases of Google Classroom not loading please ask the student to first try update the iPad by going to:

Settings > General > Software Updates > Download and Install (The latest iOS version is 13.6)

Let us know by sending us an email (ictsupport@wallarano-ps.vic.edu.au) or opening a new ticket!

ICT Support Limited On-site Support

The ICT Support team will be moving to an on-site as-needed basis, this means we will meet you onsite by appointment.

  • Please continue to log all tickets on Sentral, which will allows us to split the load between team members working remotely
  • You can also email us directly on ictsupport@wallarano-ps.vic.edu.au
  • That email can be shared to the community to ask for assistance directly

Return to School – iPad Return Process (F-2)

Foundation to Grade 2 iPads will be reconfigured back into shared class sets.

See below how it will work:

  • Teachers to keep a Class List of returned iPads from Students
    • iPad Returned / Charger Returned / Cable Returned
    • See below spreadsheet on ‘expected iPad returns’
    • [redacted]
    • If a student returns an iPad that is not on the ‘expected iPad returns’ spreadsheet, still mark them off on your Class List (this just means we missed processing the paperwork)
  • iPads will be collected by ICT Support to be wiped and re-setup
    • This is important as we do not know what the iPad has been used for at home, including home banking / photos / etc and we need to ensure we take off all personal data before being used as shared devices in the school
  • iPads will be reallocated back into shared class set and placed into the iPad Safes

Additional iPad Devices for F-2

We envisage F-2 will want to continue utilising SeeSaw once we return to school.

In response to Learning From Home we ordered our 2021 one-to-one iPads early.

We will configure these additional devices to supplement and boost the number of devices in the Class Sets of iPads for F-2 for the rest of the 2020 year.

  • Each year level will receive an additional 30 iPads to use for the rest of 2020.

Reminder Chromebook’s Available

A reminder;

  • We also have 3 trolleys of Chromebooks (~30 in each trolley)
  • Can be used for digital-learning including SeeSaw
  • F-2 can login to the Chromebooks using the Grade Logins (eg; 203/203 as username and password)
  • We will review the location of these trolley’s to ensure they are easily accessible by F-2 grades
    • Trolley 1 – Computer Lab
    • Trolley 2 – Grade 1 Area
    • Trolley 3 – Grade 2 Area

What you need to know

  • You will receive a new simpler email address - Firstname.Lastname@education.vic.gov.au
  • Your new @education email address will become your username for Department of Education web services

Video Library for Remote Learning videos

Video’s you have recorded for the students and put up on SeeSaw/Google Classrooms is a valuable resource for other staff members to see how different classes are approaching remote-learning.

We have created a new folder in the Staff Photos GDrive shared drive where you can share your video’s with other staff members in a central location.

Google Drive > Shared Drives > Staff Photos GDrive > 2020 > Remote Learning – Video Library

Archiving unused Google Classrooms

At the end of the school year, it is best practice to ‘Archive’ your old Google Classroom which will freeze the classroom from staff/students posting any new comments and work.

Recently, we have had some student use dormant Google Classrooms to chat inappropriately. As a response, we have done a clean-up and automatically archived any classrooms created prior to 2019. You will still have full access to these archived Classrooms!

Please do a spring clean of your old Google Classrooms that are no longer needed.

More information: Google Classroom - Archiving old classrooms

Here’s some fun stats we dug up in the process -

  • Wallarano Primary School has been using Google Classrooms since 2015 (wowza!)
  • Since that time, over 450+ Google Classrooms have been created by the Staff at Wallarano
  • At the start of the year (March 2020) we had 22 actively used Classroom’s
  • Since Term 2 started, we now have 75 actively used Classroom’s
  • Staff are currently posting an average of 250-300 Google Classroom posts per day!

Google Meet Tiled View

Some users reported that Google Meet was jittery, slow to respond and unable to mute/unmute during the Staff Meeting. We have found that the source was the third-party Grid Extension may be causing the issue.

If you installed the Grid View Extension for Google Chrome to get the grid view and experience issues last week, please uninstall the extension.

Google Meet now has a built-in Tiled view so there is no need for the extension.

More Information on uninstalling Grid View extension and using Tiled View: Google Meet - Tiled View

Updated Wallarano Launch website

The Wallarano Launch website has been update for both Staff and Students to assist with remote learning from any device.

http://launch.wallarano-ps.vic.edu.au

It now features Sora, Epic, Sunshine Online and PM eCollections as well as the full Google Suite. The apps have also been categorised with what credentials are needed to login.

Directing students to the Launch page ensures they have a similar experience to what they would get at school from any device.

NEW Student Test Accounts

Teachers have been asking for test accounts they can join into a Google Classroom as a student so that they can see the assignments from the student perspective.

The easiest solution would be to switch user and login using an existing student from your class. However;

We have also enabled Homegroup student accounts for all Grade 3 – Grade 6 if you want to a separate test student. Homegroup account credentials are your grade numbers.

Example
username: redacted
password: redacted
email: redacted

You can then add your grade account to your Google Classroom as a student, switch user and login as your grade account and view the assignments from the perspective of a student.

For specialist; we have created you a Test Student account.

Test Student
Username: redacted
password: redacted
email: redacted

You can then add the Test Student to your Google Classroom as a student, switch user and login as the Test Student and view the assignments from the perspective of a student.
