The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline communication, sharing of files and assignments between teachers and students. Classroom also seamlessly integrates with other Google tools like Google Docs and Drive.
If you are creating a Google Classroom with a large number of students, it may be easier to share with them a code that will link them with your classroom.
Inside your new Google Classroom, click on the People tab
2. Ask the students to open Google Classroom and Join a class
3. Once the code is generated, you can click on the arrow to Copy the code at any time
⚠️ We recommend turning OFF visible to students - otherwise they will be able to join the Meeting room at any time. Instead; just copy the link and paste it into the stream when you are scheduling a meeting. Ensure to delete the post on the stream after the meeting has finished.
4. Paste the meeting link in the Stream, type a little message and press Post
✔ Delete the post on the stream once you have finished your Google Meet meeting, otherwise students will be able to join the meeting room at any time.
🛈 Your teacher should provide you with your username and password for Google apps.
¶ Open and Edit Assignments stores on Google Drive on iPad
If you are using one of the Google Apps (such as Docs/Sheets/Slides/Forms/Drive) within a Google Classroom assignment, there is a tricky step that the students need to complete to be able to edit the document.
When you’re done teaching a class, you can archive it. When a class is archived, it’s archived for all students and teachers in the class. If you don’t archive a class, students and teachers in the class continue to see it on their Classes page.
You can restore an archived class if you want to use it again, or delete it if you’ll never use it again. To delete a class, you need to archive it first.
✔ Even if you archive a class you can reuse the assignments from that class using the 'Repost' in assignments.
🛈 This is a manual step after Archiving a Google Classroom.
Because Google Classroom automates the sharing and collaborating process, it is easy to forget what is actually going on behind the scenes in Google Drive. For each class you create in Google Classroom, a folder gets created in your Google Drive where all of the assignment documents and other files are stored.
Now you may never open that Classroom folder in Drive, so this tip may not apply to you at all. However, you may choose to browse that folder as another option for easy access to all your students' submitted work. If that is the case, the "Classroom" folder in your Drive can get pretty crowded over the years.
If it helps, you are allowed to move class folders to a new location in your Drive, so only the current class folders are easily visible. Here's how:
Go to Google Drive and select the "Classroom" folder.
If you do not already have a place to move the old class folders, create a new folder by clicking "New" and "Folder".
Name it something like "Archive".
You can now simply drag and drop the old class folders into the new folder you have created.
🛈 Moving class folders does not interfere with their use in Google Classroom in any way. It simply cleans up your "Classroom" folder to make it easier for you to find current classes, if so desired.
